1) deviantart isn't just about the art it's a community, so post your art, and take pleasure in favouriting and commenting on other people's art.

2) a deviantart Journal is not a livejournal. People who want to see your art want to read about art related things in your journal not how much your english teacher sux or how no one thinks you're pretty.

3) Enjoy yourself

I welcome them to the community, encourage them to ask questions if they have them, and let them know we're all excited to see what art they display. It's sort of generic, and simple... But the rest really is up to them... A lot of people don't even bother to welcome new deviants, when you read their page - most of it is just a generic "Thanks for the Fav" and NO welcome... Shame on them. I wish everyone who stopped in on a new person's page had the coolness to welcome them.

That's awesome! I currently try and take at least 10 minutes every day and visit random people (thanks to the random deviant button ) and wish them a great day. So far, everyone has been absolutely positive about it, and I think that's what we need around here!

Don't expect lots of comments and pageviews right away. Remember, this site is about the community AND the art. If you want people to comment on your stuff, try commenting on theirs first.

If you must criticize someones work, make it CONSTRUCTIVE. No, "this is lame" comments.
