why should we ignore the background? it gives the idea of depth with those square shapes that look like defferent transparent layers, one on the other, just like the arms on her body.
i think the background is perfect! you probably didn't know the real meaning of this background before, but i think that without it the illustration would have less impact on our eyes! your subconscious was right!
